About

This two-day training course on monitoring of court proceedings will gather 29 participants, including representatives of NGOs, the Ombudsman’s Office and practicing lawyers from across Kyrgyzstan.

The training course will focus on how to ensure better responses to torture allegations during court proceedings as a key fair trial guarantee, and provide practical skills in using new technologies in realtime reporting from courtrooms.

Monitoring forms and questionnaires will be discussed and elaborated during the event. Findings will be used to build-up  and complement the OSCE Centre in Bishkek’s activities aimed at addressing human rights in closed facilities, freedom from torture and ill-treatment, as well as at supporting ongoing reforms of the criminal justice administration and judicial reforms.

The course will be delivered by two national experts on human rights and an expert on media issues. It is part of a project by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights – Human rights protection for stability in Central Asia - which is funded by the European Union.
