BISHKEK, 28 January 2005 - The OSCE Centre in Bishkek and the Dutch Government are providing support and financial assistance to the NGOs Internews and Cimera - Kyrgyzstan to help them monitor the way media covers the 27 February parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan.

The project will allow 24-hour a day monitoring of the main electronic and print media and help analyze how fair and balanced the media are towards different parties and candidates. Results will be entered into a database.

"A group of 30 observers, who underwent special training conducted within the framework of the project, will monitor governmen-run and non-governmental printing and electronic mass media in all regions of Kyrgyzstan," said Kuban Mambetaliev, Co-ordinator of the project.

Some 150 publications and 34 electronic media outlets will be monitored.

Weekly reports in Russian and English languages will be prepared and a final analytical report with full results will be published at the end of the project.
