OSCE Centre in Bishkek organizes a conference on role of the media in countering violent extremism. It will be conducted by international media and legal experts and attended by 80 participants – media experts, religious experts, journalists, civil society and government representatives from Bishkek, Osh and Batken.
The main objective of the conference - to create a platform for discussion of cooperation mechanisms for media, civil society and government bodies in combating extremism, which is one of the important objectives of the Kyrgyz Republic state policy concept in religion for 2014-2020.
The conference will feature the best local and international practices of cooperation between state, civil society and media for information promises, alternative to radical extremist discourse, based on the ideas of tolerance and respect for human rights. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss ethical principles of covering radicalism and extremism topics, as well as the development of anti-extremism legislation. Within the framework of the conference two workshops will be organized by international experts - on linguistic testimony methodology and on covering violent extremism, radicalism and alternative narratives development in the media.
