Fifty representatives of rehabilitation centres, prisons’ administrations, international organizations and civil society took part in an OSCE-supported event to celebrate the seventh anniversary of "Atlantis" rehabilitation centres for drug and alcohol-addicted inmates on 21 April, 2011 at the Training Centre of the State Service of Execution of Punishment in Bishkek.

The OSCE Centre in Bishkek works in close co-operation with the "Atlantis" centres. The Centre supported a training course on therapy-related topics, including psychology, for 19 rehabilitation centre employees in February and March.

The OSCE Centre in Bishkek also plans to support a project to promote security and human rights in prisons by improving the working conditions in two rehabilitation centres.

The commemorative event was organized as a part of a wider project to promote the rule of law in Kyrgyzstan’s penitentiary system, funded by the Permanent Mission of Finland to the OSCE.
