The OSCE Centre in Bishkek and the Ministry of Interior opens a renovated office of the Department of state protection and a temporary shelter for witnesses in Kyrgyzstan.

The renovations is a part of the OSCE assistance to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Interior aiming to  improve effectiveness of witness protection programme and help bring to justice those who commit serious crimes.

In December 2014 the Ministry of Internal Affairs, guided by the Government Apparatus, set up a Witness Protection Department (which now is renamed into Department for State Protection) with the aim to provide legal protection and safety for persons participating in criminal investigations and prosecutions. A few witnesses are already included in the programme.
