About
An OSCE-supported photo exhibition “Colour from inside” on life in Kyrgyzstan’s prisons, by French photographer Eric Gourlan, will take place on 9-13 September in Osh city.
Organized in co-operation with Kyrgyzstan’s State Penitentiary Service (GSIN), the United States Agency for International Development, Freedom House, the GSIN Public Oversight Council and Egel, an NGONGO
non-governmental organization, the exhibition will feature photos taken during Gourlan’s trips to Kyrgyzstan’s prisons in 2013. The photographer spent over a month photographing juvenile, female and two men’s prisons located around Bishkek.
According to Gourlan, “the time spent within each colony resulted in an unparalleled acceptance and trust of the inmates and guards, revealing the life within the prisons and the inner emotions of those living and working there.”
Gourlan, a professional French photographer born in 1968, has taught photography and photographed people and events around the world, including street children, refugee camps and a 17-month road expedition in the Baltics and Eurasia.
